Coupons and bargain hunting. This is a gimme, everyone knows to collect coupons for groceries. However some people may not know where to look for these deals. Coupons.com and Lozo.com are huge grocery coupon websites. There databases hold over 1000 coupons at a time, so they are good places to start.
Grocery shopping on a budget is not an easy task, especially when you have a large family. I know grocery shopping is hard for me , and as a single mother I look for every deal that I possibly can. Even though it takes work to save more money on groceries, it is not impossible. Here are some tips that will help you save money and hopefully teach you how to make meals last a little bit longer
If there are no coupons for a particular product, maybe it is on sale at another nearby store. So be on the lookout for better sales at competing supermarkets. Some supermarkets purposely run sales st certain times to trump their competitors. Take advantage of the competition.
Join Wholesale Shopping Clubs. BJs and Costco are a few examples of these. They charge a membership fees to get in but they sell products in bulk at wholesale prices. They also have their own coupon books, which is a plus. In most of these clubs you can use manufacturer’s coupons and club coupons together, and that is always a plus.
Buy in bulk.Kind of like the last example but not really. In this example I am talking about buying things you know you will eat a lot in bulk. This might be drinks, pastas, some can goods, and foods that you can freeze. You do not have to be a member of a wholesale club for this, you can simply buy in bulk when these things are on sale or priced lower than usual.
Write a letter complimenting a certain product or service. You do not always have to contact a company with a complaint, although that is the time that most people contact a company. You can write a really nice email or snail mail letter complimenting their product or service.
If you are going to write a letter make sure the letter is in a bright colored envelope and stands out from normal mail. Then, shower them with compliments about their product or service. This doesn’t always work, but most of the time it does.
Plan economical meals that last a few days. When you are at the supermarket, try to plan meals instead of buying random odds and ends. You can always plan what to cook before leaving for the supermarket, but if not just try to plan a meal when in the supermarket. This method works because it forces you to concentrate on the things that you need and will most likely use. Try to cook meals that will take a few days for your family to eat like spaghetti, lasagna, casseroles, etc. I don’t recommend eating anything older than three days. Be aware of a foods shelf life.
Learn ways to savor and freeze food so it will last longer. What you can do is make meals and freeze them for later. You can make waffles, lasagna, cakes, mac and cheese and plenty more and store it in the freezer. Just be sure to wrap them up well and eat them within a few months. Freezing food easily adds weeks to months to a foods shelf life. So buy some freezer bags and get storing!
Shop at Walmart . Walmart always has a huge grocery section, and always at an affordable price. If you can find coupons and shop at Walmart, you will save a lot of money. The only drawback is that everyone does not live near a Walmart, and the store is so big that its like running a marathon just to get your shopping done.
Walmart is also packed and not so well kept at times, but I guess that’s the price you pay for discount prices. If you can get past the drawbacks though, Walmart is a great place to shop on a budget.
So these are my basic money saving tips, hopefully I didn’t miss anything. How do you save?
